Outrageous hate speeches followed by anti-Muslim pogrom


To protest against the violence in Bangladesh, right-wing Hindu extremist groups such as Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and the Hindu Jagran Manch (HJM) took out rallies. This was, perhaps the first time, when extremely outrageous slogans were made from the rally against the Prophet (pbuh). Such rallies continued for days in several parts of the state. The inability of the local administration emboldened the extremists’ organizations to go on rampage against Muslim community. What was merely, initially, protest rally soon turned into anti-Muslim pogrom in Tripura in which several people got injured, several Mosques, houses and shops of Muslims looted, vandalized and burnt down. In this Anti-Muslim pogrom massive harm was inflicted upon religious places besides individual properties.
