Case summery: Law and order issue in UP is getting bed to worse day by day. The functioning of police is being questioned in many cases, particularly police encounters. The cases of custodial deaths are also being reported. The latest is the alleged suicide case in the police lock up in Kasganj, UP. On November 8, 2021 Mohammad Altaaf, 21, was picked from his home by some local police around 7:30pm on the complaint Mr. Vinod Kumar Bhardawaj who accused Altaf eloping his daughter, who is minor. He was taken to police station for inquiry purpose. He did not some back only his death news came to his family next day. Altaf’s father was informed by former Pradhan, Sunil Kumar, of the village about Altaf’s death. He was told that his son has committed suicide in the police station. He hanged himself, using a drawstring of his jacket hood, in almost three feet high water tap located at the toilet inside a lockup. In a viral video on social media his father Chand Miya can be seen as crying for help and accusing police of murdering his son. After learning about this case and coming across several serious reports about the case which raises legitimate questions, Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind decided to send a delegation to meet the victim family and find out the facts on ground. A delegation led by Maulana Muhammad Hakeemuddin Qasmi sb. – Gen. Sec. Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind- visited the victim's family in Kasganj UP. The delegation found serious problems with the police version of the case. It does not seem a simple suicide case. It needs a high level judicial probe by an independent authority. Police role is under doubts.
