Kerala state unit of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has attacked Halal food system in the state and demanded the state government to ban this practice. BJP state General Secretary P. Sudheer said that Halal is “social evil” like Triple Talaq. He was of the view that Halal does not have anything to do with religion, the extremist organizations are trying to implement a communal agenda in Kerala society, he added. In a similar fashion the state president of BJP K Surendran said that there is sudden rise in the Halal signboard across the state and it just not accidental. There are concerted efforts of promoting Halal culture in the state. Joining the bandwagon the former leader of the regional Christian political outfit Kerala Congress (M) P C George termed the Halal practice as a part of religious fundamentalism. He believed and said on a TV Channel that “Spitting on food is mandatory for Muslims and they do it three times like while kneading the dough”. In this regard The Kerala Hotels and Restaurants Association have approached state Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking his intervention for halting the malicious hate campaign being pushed against Muslims.
